A total collection of c134,000 items are held in the Library - 85,000 of them will be accessible in the main Library collection and a further 46,000 texts will be stored in the basement (you will need to request these).
In summary
|
Some reference materials have been moved to temporary homes in academic departments to allow consultation by staff and students. These items will be clearly marked on the library catalogue.
Making the request from the catalogue
If an item is housed in the basement store, it will have the location code 'Stirling - Basement' and there will be a link to 'request item from basement store'. When you click this link you will be asked to enter your university username (your computer login which takes the form of your initials plus some numbers). You may also be asked to select which copy of the book you want to request (where there is more than one copy). Your name, email and registration number should appear on the web page. Assuming these details are correct, you should click 'Request items' to finish the transaction. A summary screen of your request will appear. You can then assume that your request has gone to Lending Services for retrieval.
What happens next?
Your request will be processed and retrieved from basement store as quickly as possible. When the item is moved from basement store to the main Library area, you will receive an email to notify you that your book is now waiting for collection from the hold shelf. You can then come to the Library to pick up your book.
We will buy books or journal articles that are not already in the library but are needed for your class.
You will be informed of the progress of your request as soon as possible.
If you are a dissertation, postgraduate student, member of staff and the item you require is only likely to be needed by yourself for your personal research, you should use the Document Delivery Service to order the item.
