Leighton Library

Click on the Play button below to see a short film about the Leighton Library.

The Leighton Library contains around 4,000 volumes and 78 manuscripts, dating from the 16th century to the 19th century. The collection is founded on the personal library of Archbishop Robert Leighton (1611-1684).

The building, in The Cross, Dunblane, is one of the oldest purpose built libraries in Scotland and is open to visitors during the summer months. However, books from the collection, which is owned by the Leighton Trustees, may be used only in the University Library.

Please contact Helen Beardsley for further information.

The books in the Leighton Library are included in the University Library catalogue. Here is a list in alphabetical order by author (select 'Leighton Library' from the list).

There is a published catalogue of manuscripts (available for sale).
