The Leighton Library contains around 4,000 volumes and 78 manuscripts, dating from the 16th century to the 19th century. The collection is founded on the personal library of Archbishop Robert Leighton (1611-1684).
The building, in The Cross, Dunblane, is one of the oldest purpose built libraries in Scotland and is open to visitors during the summer months. However, books from the collection, which is owned by the Leighton Trustees, may be used only in the University Library.
Please note that, due to the refurbishment of the library, we are unable to make Leighton Library books available to readers in the University Library from January 2009 to August 2010. Please contact Helen Beardsley for further information.
